Action Youth in Development (AYID) is a non-profit, non-partisan, and non-political organization established in the Sanaag region on January 12, 2004, by young intellectuals who recognized the urgent need for youth and women’s empowerment. Legally registered in the same year, AYID operates on the core principles of community partnership and responsiveness to local needs.
Working across all six regions of Somaliland, we collaborate with both local and international partners, including Mercy Corps and the Danish Refugee Council, to implement programs focused on education, economic opportunity, human rights, and democratic engagement, ultimately striving to improve the quality of life for vulnerable groups. Our head office is based in Hargeisa.
To improve the quality of life for vulnerable groups in the Sanaag region, including youth, street children, internally displaced persons (IDPs), people living with HIV/AIDS, and minority groups, through continuous participatory programs that uphold gender equality.
AYID envisions a free society, particularly for children, youth, and minority groups, that is liberated from disease, poverty, ignorance, and injustice. The organization strives to promote peace, justice, and the overall well-being of society.
